The main objective of the Tour de Chocolate (Fairtrade Chocolate Tour) is to make visitors familiar with the fair trade cocoa production process in the Dominican Republic. More than 8,500 small-scale producers of “CONACADO” export their cocoa to markets in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Visitors will be welcome at cocoa farms and their processing plants, where they will have a unique education on the farming of cocoa and the processing of cocoa beans as well as learn about how Fair Trade has improved the quality of local life.
The tour de chocolate gives visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a homemade Dominican meal surrounded by beautiful tropical scenery and see how Dominican women use cocoa to make wine, chocolate and marmalade. For those who wish to take home a part of the experience, these chocolate delicacies as well as local handicrafts are available for purchase.
Please note that this tour is presently only available in Spanish.
If you would like to stay and enjoy the rural life, we also offer a Cabaña for our overnight guests. It can house up to 20 people, with 2 double beds and 8 bunk beds. Food and drinks are not included but can be provided by the local women’s group “Asociación de Amor y Paz.”
