Sustainability
We work together with local NGO’s, Savamaca and Soproeco, in mangrove reforestation in the Los Haitises National Park. We have been co-executors of economic development projects in the National Park along with these local NGOs. The most recent project involves strengthening the Youth Association of Sabana de la Mar Guides. We work with them in the conservation of the Rain Forest Trail. The execution was around RD $600,000.00 in this project. We offer a compensation in the form of RD $60,000.00, logistics, and nature/species.
We support every-day environmental conservation in the municipality of Sabana de la Mar: like working with the Social Pastoral of the Parish of Our Lady of Pilar in the Commonwealth of Sabana de la Mar as well as offering the elderly time for medical days and emotional support.
The cleaning of rooms and changing of towels is only done by request. At the time of check-In, we request that all fans and lights be turned off when guests leave the room. We are a lodge that produces its own energy; there is no energy provided by the state. We are exploring alternative sources of production.
We are currently reforesting the Bay of San Lorenzo and Caño Hondo River’s development of red mangrove, along with local NGOs Savamaca and Soproeco, and Brigada Verde’s youth group. We have already planted about 10,000 new seedlings in the mangrove area.
