Explore the tallest waterfall in the Caribbean

Enjoy stunning waterfalls and tropical jungle, and savor traditional cuisine on this unique nature tour. Welcome to the Salto de Aguas Blancas Ecotrail, where you will experience adventure as you climb to the top of Aguas Blancas, considered the tallest waterfall in the Caribbean. Follow our trail, inside the Valle Nuevo National Park and let our experienced nature guides teach you about the local flora and fauna. While hiking the trail, learn about the colorful history of the Constanza region and the importance of the Valle Nuevo National Park where crystal clear streams originate in the mountains descending to become the thunderous rivers that provide water to the lower regions of Bonao and Santiago. Enjoy a site rarely seen standing next to these impressive falls, soaking in the stunning views of this pristine area.

Following your hike, enjoy a lunch of typical Dominican cuisine cooked over an open fire using a traditional Dominican cooking method. Visitors have the opportunity to see how local women use cocoa to make wine, chocolate and marmalade. For those who wish to take home the experience, these delicacies, along with local handicrafts are available for purchase. This hike is for the whole family! It’s an easy walk, and you can learn about the ecology of the region, while enjoying some of the best views of Constanza.

We are a community-based enterprise, creating work and supplying benefits to the community of El Convento.  100% of your tour payment will stay within the community.  We pride ourselves on providing our clients with the same quality services they can receive in resorts, but giving them a unique cultural experience.

    Sustainability

The community of El Convento has developed a community-based venture to manage the tours to the Aguas Blancas Waterfall and Ecotrail.  As part of the logistics of the project the enterprise has a women’s group that provides the delicious lunches for our visitors.  Both the tours and the lunch business provide alternative jobs for the local residents and help to improve the quality of life in the region.

The Ecouturism Cluster of Constanza has also partnered with the Community of el Convento to manage the Aguas Blancas Ecotrail and make sure that the site is well conserved for generations to come.  This partnership is crucial to the sustainability of the business and is a perfect example of how communities can work together with the private sector to conserve and enhance the attractions in a destination. This initiative benefits the community of Constanza and is example to the rest of the Dominican Republic of how collaboration can benefit all involved.

    How to get there

Transportation to Aguas Blancas from Constanza is included in the tour package.  We recommend that you arrange travel up to the site with us.
There are several ways to get to Constanza from Santo Domingo and Santiago.

    From Santo Domingo:
Several bus lines provide transportation directly to Constanza:

    Linea Cobra:                          (809) 539-2004                  5am and 1pm

    RR Express:                           (809) 539-1100                  5am and 1pm

    Expresso Constanza:           (809) 412-2125                  12pm and 3pm
These direct busses cost $RD 350 and passenger pickup can be arranged if you call a day in advance.

For a more adventurous route… Traveling 9km down the highway you will reach Duarte. From there catch a bus heading to La Vega or Santiago. ($RD 150).  Travel north on the Duarte Highway, and have the driver let you off in Abanico, which is just north of Bonao.  From Abanico, you will be able to find transportation to Constanza.  This is normally a pickup truck; it costs $RD 100 to be in the back or $RD175 to be inside.   This will take you to Constanza where you can take a taxi out to the airport. There you will find the offices of the Cluster Ecoturistico de Constanza, and you can start your tour up to Aguas Blancas.

    From Santiago:
The Linea Junior, which has direct service to Constanza, has buses leaving at 5am and 2pm from Santiago. (809) 582-2134.  Call ahead to arrange pickup.  If your travel plans don’t allow you to leave Santiago at these times, you can purchase a ticket to Bonao from the Aetra Bus Stop located on Santiago’s main street, Las Carreras ($RD 180). Have the driver let you off in Abanico, which is roughly 3km north of Bonao.  From here you will be able to find transportation to Constanza ($RD100-175).
We strongly recommend taking the bus routes that are more organized and going directly to Constanza where you can meet us in our office.
